ISC2 Teams Up with IBM to Introduce Basic Cybersecurity Certification

ISC2, the world’s leading nonprofit member organization for cybersecurity professionals, has announced a partnership with IBM to introduce the IBM and ISC2 Cybersecurity Specialist Professional Certificate. This new entry-level program is available solely via the Coursera platform and is designed to prepare prospective cybersecurity professionals for a career in the field in just four months, targeting candidates with no previous experience.

The new certificate, offered as part of IBM’s collection of over 200 online technology degrees and certificates on Coursera, covers five CC domains including security principles, incident response, business continuity and disaster recovery, access controls concepts, network security, and security operations. Through completing this 12-course series, individuals will gain the in-demand skills and hands-on experience required for a cybersecurity specialist role. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an IBM Digital Badge as well as projects to use for interviews, and access to resources for launching their careers.

The demand for cybersecurity professionals has surged, with a significant global workforce gap that needs to grow 73% to effectively defend organizations’ critical assets. The program is being hailed as a groundbreaking initiative combining IBM’s technical expertise with ISC2’s cybersecurity specializations to offer the practical skills and knowledge sought after by organizations in cybersecurity specialists.

ISC2 CEO Clar Rosso, CC, expressed confidence in the partnership with IBM, affirming that this initiative will enable aspiring professionals to demonstrate technical proficiency and create a solid foundation of skills, thus enabling job seekers to enter the industry and begin their careers. She also underscored the value of the CC certification which has been recognized by IBM and Coursera.

Leon Katsnelson, IBM Skills Network Director and CTO, reiterated the significance of this partnership, noting the ever-increasing threats against critical systems and the world’s reliance on technology. Katsnelson expressed delight in the collaboration with ISC2 and Coursera to empower aspiring cybersecurity professionals with the crucial skills necessary for success in this in-demand profession.

ISC2’s offerings aim to provide cybersecurity professionals at all stages of their careers with convenient access to relevant and up-to-date course content through its global network of partners.
