A Kashmiri student studying in Bengaluru fell victim to cyber criminals who duped him of Rs 4.30 lakh in a sophisticated online scam. The student, whose identity has been kept confidential for security reasons, received a call from individuals pretending to be bank officials. They informed him that his account had been compromised and needed immediate attention to avoid further losses.
Trusting the callers, the student followed their instructions and shared his bank details, including his account number, ATM card details, and One Time Password (OTP). Unbeknownst to him, the scammers used this information to transfer a total of Rs 4.30 lakh from his account to various unknown beneficiaries.
It was only when the student received multiple transaction alerts on his phone that he realized he had fallen victim to a scam. By then, it was too late to prevent the fraudulent transactions from taking place. Distraught and feeling helpless, the student immediately approached the nearest police station to report the incident and seek justice.
