Kevin Mandia, a cybersecurity expert, appointed as General Partner at Ballistic Ventures

SAN FRANCISCO, June 26, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Ballistic Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in cybersecurity innovations, has recently announced that Kevin Mandia, co-founder of the firm, has been appointed as General Partner.

Mandia, a prominent figure in the cybersecurity industry with over 30 years of experience, is widely known for his unwavering commitment to combatting cyber threats. His journey in cybersecurity began in 2004 when he established the renowned cybersecurity firm Mandiant. Subsequently, he served as CEO of Mandiant until its acquisition by FireEye in 2013. Mandia then assumed the role of CEO at FireEye, overseeing the company through significant transitions, including a divestiture and a name change to Mandiant, Inc. in 2021, followed by an acquisition by Google in 2022. Most recently, Mandia has transitioned to an advisory role within Google Cloud and sits on the Google Public Sector board.

In addition to his contributions in the private sector, Mandia was appointed by President Biden in 2023 to serve on the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Cybersecurity Advisory Committee. His previous roles include serving in senior positions at security consulting divisions of Sytex and Foundstone, as well as in the United States Air Force.

Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role as General Partner at Ballistic Ventures, Mandia stated, “I am very excited to dedicate more of my energy to Ballistic Ventures, and I especially look forward to working with the entrepreneurs who are shaping the future of cybersecurity.”

As a co-founder of Ballistic Ventures alongside Barmak Meftah, Ted Schlein, Jake Seid, and Roger Thornton, Mandia’s transition to General Partner signifies a new chapter for the firm. Ted Schlein remarked, “We’re excited to have Kevin as a General Partner at Ballistic. Kevin’s expertise in the cybersecurity industry is unparalleled, and his knowledge of the market and customer set is unmatched.”

In his new role, Mandia will leverage his extensive experience and insights to expand the firm’s investments and mentor entrepreneurs within the Ballistic portfolio. This strategic move comes on the heels of Ballistic Ventures recently closing its $360 million oversubscribed second fund, signaling the firm’s commitment to fueling the next generation of cybersecurity innovation.

Ballistic Ventures, known for its exclusive focus on early-stage cybersecurity and cyber-related companies, boasts a portfolio that includes a diverse range of successful cybersecurity firms. With a team that brings together over 40 years of experience in venture capital and a track record of supporting cybersecurity entrepreneurs, Ballistic Ventures aims to provide impactful support and open doors for founders in the cybersecurity industry.
