Lineaje, a renowned leader in continuous software supply chain security management, made a significant announcement today regarding the selection of SBOM360 by the Department of the U.S. Air Force for a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase 1 contract. This milestone marks a pivotal moment in the industry as SBOM360 emerges as the first software supply chain and software bill of materials (SBOM) manager, aimed at automating the detection and remediation of critical software supply chain challenges within the U.S. Air Force.
In recent times, the vulnerability of software supply chains to cyberattacks has been a growing concern, with more than 75% of supply chains falling prey to such attacks in the past year alone. Alarming statistics revealed that 40% of organizations took a month or longer to recover from these breaches. Organizations like the U.S. Air Force and other federal entities, with their high-value data stored in various applications, have become prime targets for adversaries seeking to exploit vulnerabilities in software supply chains.
The introduction of SBOM360 presents a comprehensive solution to enhance the management of software throughout its life cycle, whether sourced, built, sold, or bought by the U.S. Air Force. This innovative tool will enable the U.S. Air Force to proactively identify and address software supply chain risks and threats in alignment with security policies and compliance mandates, including Executive Order 14028. Additionally, the U.S. Air Force will now have the capability to swiftly search for vulnerabilities and indicators of compromise (IOCs) within their software components, significantly reducing response time.
CEO and Co-founder of Lineaje, Javed Hasan, expressed his pride in being selected for the STTR Phase 1 contract program, emphasizing Lineaje’s commitment to revolutionizing software supply chain security. Hasan highlighted how SBOM360’s pioneering approach will empower the U.S. Space Force and Department of the Air Force to bolster their defenses against cyber threats, safeguarding critical software infrastructure essential for national security.
The STTR Contract Program initiated by the DAF in 2018 aims to broaden the scope of innovations funded by the department by encouraging domestic small businesses to engage in federal research and development. By completing Phase I of the program, Lineaje has demonstrated the scientific, technical, and commercial viability of SBOM360’s innovation, establishing its merit and feasibility.
The partnership between the Air Force Research Laboratory and SpaceWERX has further streamlined the SBIR and STTR process, facilitating faster proposal-to-award timelines and expanding opportunities for small businesses. Through continuous process improvements in contract execution, bureaucratic overhead has been minimized, enhancing the overall efficiency of the program.
