LockBit ransomware group continues to make headlines as it adds nine more websites to its victim list. The group has been actively targeting organizations across different countries, including the UK, UAE, Sweden, Germany, South Africa, and Austria. While the cyber attack on Zaun Limited and other organizations remains unconfirmed by the affected parties, the websites of all the named companies were accessible at the time of writing.
The Cyber Express, a cybersecurity news publication, responded to this development by reaching out to all the organizations named in the ransomware attack. The publication has stated that it will update its report based on the responses received from these organizations.
Among the victims of the LockBit ransomware group are Zaun Limited, Roxcel Trading, St. Marys School, Waverley, Meaf Machines, Max Rappenglitz, Siam Premier, Luterkort Advokatbyra, Majan, and DIFC Courts. Zaun Limited, a British manufacturer of welded and woven mesh fencing, and Roxcel Trading, a manufacturer of pulp, paper, and board based in Austria, were specifically named.
St. Marys School, Waverley, a private Anglican boarding school for girls in Johannesburg, South Africa, also fell victim to the ransomware attack. Meaf Machines, a Netherlands-based company specializing in sheet extrusion equipment, and Max Rappenglitz, a Germany-based construction company, were also named as targets. Siam Premier, an international law office providing legal assistance to clients and based in Thailand, and Luterkort Advokatbyra, a law firm based in Sweden, were also affected. Majan, a UAE-based printing and packaging company, and DIFC Courts, based in Dubai, UAE, were also among the victims.
LockBit ransomware group’s dark web portal, where they list the victims and make their demands, included a deadline for each targeted company. Zaun Limited, for example, was given a 16-day deadline, after which all its data would be published online. Roxcel Trading had a 9-day deadline, St. Marys School had a 12-day deadline, and Meaf Machines had an 11-day deadline. Max Rappenglitz, Siam Premier, and Majan were given 7, 8, and 8-day deadlines, respectively. Luterkort Advokatbyra had a 16-day deadline, while DIFC Courts had no specific deadline mentioned.
The differing deadlines given to the targeted companies indicate that the hackers may have gained access to each organization and left their ransom demands on different dates. It could also suggest that the ransom negotiations ended unsuccessfully, resulting in the public exposure of the victims and the final threat.
The cybersecurity researchers, Falcon Feeds, were the ones who discovered and shared information about the Zaun cyber attack and the other eight ransomware attacks carried out by the LockBit ransomware group. Falcon Feeds tweeted about the attacks, bringing attention to the situation.
