LockBit ransomware strikes again, targeting three new victims and adding them to their dark web portal. The affected organizations are Best Motel, Federal Electric Corp Ltd (FEC), and Construction CRD, operating in different industries and regions around the world. The Cyber Express has reached out to the organizations for comment, but their websites appear to be operating normally with no signs of disruption. As of now, no official response or statement has been received from the companies, making it difficult to confirm the cyber attack.
Best Motel, located in Vilsbiburg, Landshut, has been listed as the first victim on LockBit’s data leak site. The threat actor has set a deadline of August 7, 2023, for publishing the stolen data. FEC, a popular electric home appliance manufacturer in Thailand, is also listed as a victim. The threat actor has uploaded information from FEC’s servers and threatens to publish it if their demands are not met by August 9, 2023. Construction CRD, a leading residential construction expert in Quebec, is the third victim of the LockBit ransomware group, facing potential exposure of confidential data.
These three businesses are not the only targets of LockBit ransomware. The group recently claimed responsibility for attacking West Oaks School, as well as other high-profile cyber attacks in 2022. LockBit ransomware has become a common global cyber threat, employing a Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) model to carry out attacks using its infrastructure and resources. The success of LockBit can be attributed to its unique strategies and continuous improvement of its RaaS and administration panel features. The ransomware group recruits affiliates using unconventional methods, such as upfront extortion payments and an intuitive ransomware interface.
Several cybersecurity and law enforcement agencies, including CISA, FBI, and MS-ISAC, have issued a Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) to help organizations strengthen their defenses against LockBit ransomware. The advisory highlights the RaaS model used by the group and emphasizes the varying tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) observed in different attacks.
LockBit ransomware continues to pose a serious and persistent threat to businesses globally. The recent attacks on Best Motel, FEC, and Construction CRD are just a small portion of the group’s activities. Last year, LockBit went on a cyberattack rampage targeting numerous businesses worldwide.
