In a disturbing case, the Cyber Crime Wing of the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) has recently apprehended a 37-year-old man accused of stalking and harassing a 40-year-old U.S. citizen on social media for over five years. This arrest comes following a complaint from the U.S. Consulate General Chennai, prompting swift action from the authorities.

The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was subjected to a campaign of terror that included death threats, extortion demands, and the unsolicited sharing of explicit imagery through email and various social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter). The relentless harassment took a toll on the victim, who felt unsafe and violated by the constant intrusion into her online presence.

The Cyber Crime Wing, in close coordination with other law enforcement agencies, conducted a thorough investigation into the matter. By analyzing call records and social media activity, they were able to trace the perpetrator, identified as ‘Gift’ Jesubalan Selvanayagam, residing in Kumaran Nagar, Tiruchi. Jesubalan, a 37-year-old unemployed individual with a degree in computer science, had allegedly been fixated on the victim for an extended period, using multiple fake accounts to inundate her with offensive content and comments.

Jesubalan’s arrest sheds light on the growing threat of cyberstalking and online harassment, which have become prevalent in today’s digital age. GCP Commissioner A. Arun emphasized the severity of such offenses, urging victims to report any instances of cyber harassment promptly. He also encouraged individuals to utilize resources such as www.cybercrime.gov.in or reach out to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station for immediate assistance and legal recourse.

The swift action taken by the Cyber Crime Wing underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and protect individuals from online predators. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of staying vigilant and taking proactive measures to safeguard one’s online security and well-being.

As the accused, Jesubalan, faces legal proceedings and judicial custody, the victim can hopefully find solace in knowing that justice is being served. It is crucial for society as a whole to stand united against cyber harassment and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.

In conclusion, the case serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by cyberstalking and online harassment. By raising awareness and taking proactive steps to address such crimes, we can create a safer and more secure online environment for all individuals.
