Maryland community colleges have confirmed event dates for April and May to mark the launch of their participation in the Maryland Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program. The CWA program, developed by MACC and BCR Cyber, provides all 16 of Maryland’s community colleges with access to advanced cyber ranges for training and education.

Through the CWA program, Maryland community colleges will have on-site access to cyber ranges using dedicated remote workstations. This access will be utilized for cybersecurity curriculum development and course inclusion, providing students with the opportunity to train in a hyper-realistic environment alongside their peers and professors.

Upon completion of their studies, students will be assisted in finding industry jobs to meet the urgent needs of Maryland’s cyber workforce. Michael Spector, President and CEO of BCR Cyber, emphasized the important role that Maryland community colleges play in creating career paths and meaningful employment opportunities for job seekers in the cybersecurity field.

In addition to the academic component of the CWA program, a Workforce Development component is offered by MACC and BCR Cyber, including SOC Operations Analyst I training and certification. This certification is designed to prepare individuals for entry-level Security Operations Center (SOC) roles, aligning with industry standards and employer requirements.

BCR Cyber’s training programs combine theoretical knowledge with real-world scenarios to prepare students to enter the cyber workforce quickly. A public-private consortium of over 40 strategic industry partners provides guidance to ensure that training programs are aligned with current cybersecurity industry standards.

Maryland Association of Community Colleges (MACC) serves as the advocate for Maryland’s 16 community colleges, providing flexible curricula and award-winning teaching staff to students seeking academic degrees, career certifications, and enrichment courses. BCR Cyber, established in 2017, focuses on delivering exceptional training solutions to government and commercial clients. The BCR Cyber Range, the first facility dedicated to workforce development in the cybersecurity sector, has trained thousands of individuals and successfully placed over 83% into employment. The hands-on training provided by BCR Cyber includes cyber threat detection, compromise mitigation, and system remediation in a simulated threat environment.
