Lucknow: The tale of a once mild-mannered maths teacher, Krishna Kumar, from Muradnagar, Ghaziabad, has taken a dark turn as he confessed to being a key member of a cyber fraud gang. The 27-year-old teacher initially had dreams of leading a simple life, teaching, and marrying his girlfriend. However, a bitter family feud over his relationship pushed him into a downward spiral, leading to his involvement in cyber crimes.
Krishna Kumar, who was recently arrested for duping a doctor of lakhs of rupees through digital means, revealed that his entry into cyber fraud was a result of familial conflict. Facing opposition from his family regarding his relationship, Kumar decided to leave home in search of independence. He moved to Jeetpur in Muradnagar and took up a job at a medical store, where he confided in the owner, Rahul, about his struggles.
It was at the medical store that Kumar was introduced to Rajkumar, a member of a cyber fraud syndicate. Rajkumar offered Kumar an opportunity to earn significantly more money by providing details of bank accounts for fraudulent activities. Seeing this as a way out of his financial woes, Kumar agreed to join the gang and began facilitating scams where victims were extorted under the guise of a ‘digital arrest’.
Kumar’s role in the cyber fraud ring was simple yet crucial: he procured bank accounts and SIM cards using stolen credentials, enabling the gang to carry out their fraudulent activities. Through these scams, Kumar was able to earn a commission that far exceeded his meagre teaching income, with some days netting him over Rs 3,000.
The arrest of Krishna Kumar marks the eighth apprehension in the Dr. Ashok Solanki cheating case, with seven other criminals already in custody. The gang, which included individuals such as Pankaj Surela, Sagar Singh, Sunny Verma, Anshul Mahor, Abhay Singh, Raj Kumar, and Sandeep Dohare, targeted unsuspecting victims through elaborate schemes involving impersonation and extortion.
Dr. Solanki, a resident of the city, fell prey to the gang’s tactics when he received a call from an unknown number claiming to be a police officer. The caller informed him of an illegal parcel in his name, threatening him with imprisonment. This incident highlights the elaborate tactics employed by cyber fraudsters to deceive and exploit innocent individuals for financial gain.
The case of Krishna Kumar serves as a cautionary tale of how personal conflicts and financial struggles can lead individuals down a path of criminality. Despite his initially noble aspirations of leading a simple life as a teacher, Kumar’s desperation for financial stability ultimately led him astray. As authorities continue to crack down on cyber fraud syndicates, it is essential for individuals to remain vigilant and cautious when faced with suspicious calls or messages requesting personal information or financial transactions.
