McAfee Scam Detector Identifies Scams in Texts, Emails, and Videos

McAfee has unveiled a new AI-powered tool called McAfee Scam Detector, which aims to protect users from text, email, and video scams. In today’s digital age, scams have become more sophisticated and prevalent, with 59% of Americans admitting that they or someone they know has fallen victim to an online scam in the past year, resulting in an average loss of $1,471 per victim.

The emergence of deepfakes and the accessibility of AI tools to create them have only added to the complexity of the issue. According to a study conducted by McAfee Labs, scammers can create realistic-looking deepfake videos or AI voice scams for as little as $5 and in just 10 minutes. This has made it easier for scammers to deceive unsuspecting individuals and extract personal information and money from them.

The McAfee Scam Detector is designed to empower consumers and prevent scammers from succeeding by offering proactive, real-time protection against suspicious texts, fake emails, and deepfake videos. This tool utilizes advanced AI technology to analyze and flag risky messages in real-time, giving users the ability to distinguish between genuine and fraudulent communications quickly and effectively.

Starting this Spring, McAfee Scam Detector will be available to McAfee customers at no additional cost. The product leverages cutting-edge AI technology to identify and alert users to potential scams, such as text messages from unknown senders, fake emails, and deceptive investment opportunities. By providing users with actionable insights and real-time protection, McAfee aims to eliminate scams from people’s lives for good.

Scams, whether in the form of text messages, emails, or videos, have a detrimental impact on individuals, both financially and emotionally. On average, Americans receive 14 scam messages per day, with 1 in 5 individuals losing over $1,000 and 4% losing over $10,000 when falling prey to a scam. In addition, victims spend nearly 94 hours each year trying to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent messages, highlighting the significant burden that scams place on individuals.

Steve Grobman, CTO of McAfee, emphasized the evolving tactics of scammers and the importance of employing technology like AI to combat them effectively. He highlighted the role of McAfee Scam Detector in preemptively identifying and mitigating potential threats, enabling users to safeguard their personal information and outsmart scammers.

McAfee’s AI-powered Scam Detector utilizes McAfee Smart AI technology to provide comprehensive protection against email, text message, and video scams. Through features like Email Scam Detector, Text Scam Detector, and Deepfake Detector, users can proactively identify and avoid fraudulent communications and online scams.

The setup process for McAfee Scam Detector is seamless, requiring users to link their email accounts or activate protection through the McAfee mobile app. The tool educates users on common scam tactics, provides simple notifications for suspicious content, and works effortlessly across different devices, ensuring continuous protection wherever users are online.

For McAfee customers, McAfee Scam Detector will be integrated into existing McAfee protection plans at no additional cost, offering instant and comprehensive protection against scams.
