To spearhead this initiative, Meta has implemented a range of technical enforcement measures aimed at dismantling these scam operations. These actions include the suspension of payment methods utilized in fraudulent schemes, the disabling of accounts connected to suspected activities, and the blocking of domains linked to scam websites. Furthermore, Meta has proactively shared details of these actions with industry partners, allowing other platforms to also take measures against the same offenders.

In Brazil, the legal proceedings have uncovered troubling practices where individuals and companies allegedly manipulated images and voices of well-known celebrities. These deceitful tactics also involved the use of deepfake technology, particularly with a prominent physician’s likeness, to promote unapproved healthcare products. Additionally, these scams included selling courses instructing individuals on how to replicate these misleading tactics.

Meanwhile, in China, a technology firm has come under fire for using celebrity-focused advertisements to entice users in both the United States and Japan into fraudulent investment schemes. This kind of "celeb-bait" advertising leverages the popularity of well-known figures to mislead unsuspecting users into participating in dubious financial ventures.

In response to these growing concerns, Meta has developed a specialized program aimed at protecting the images and likenesses of celebrities repeatedly exploited in these scams. The company reported that this initiative currently safeguards the images of over 500,000 public figures and celebrities globally. This protective measure underscores Meta’s commitment to not only addressing the issue of scams but also preserving the reputations of individuals whose identities may be misused.

In Vietnam, Meta has targeted an individual accused of orchestrating a subscription fraud scheme. This particular case involved the use of cloaking techniques designed to circumvent advertising review systems, resulting in unauthorized recurring charges for victims. The exploitation of cloaking highlights the ongoing challenges that platforms face in maintaining secure advertising environments.
