Her responsibilities included monitoring network traffic and spam mail, which led her to further specialize in the field by obtaining a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Warwick.
Reflecting on her path, Ajayi-Lweka acknowledges that one of her most daunting challenges as a woman in the tech industry was the absence of early mentorship. Despite the obstacles, she navigated her career through resilience and personal growth, learning from mistakes along the way. Adenike’s dedication to uplift other women in cybersecurity is evidenced by her role as a career counselor for a female cybersecurity analyst within her workplace. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she has mentored 18 women aspiring to enter the cybersecurity field through the Cybersafe Foundation and has trained 80 others in essential cybersecurity soft skills. Moreover, as an Advancement Ambassador with WiCyS UK & Ireland, she spearheads initiatives aimed at fostering the professional growth of women in technology.
When asked about her sources of inspiration, Ajayi-Lweka cites her parents as pivotal figures in her life. Her mother, a seasoned development banker with over 30 years of experience, rose through the ranks to become Deputy General Manager, exemplifying leadership and excellence. Her father, a notable civil engineer who achieved the rank of Director in the Nigerian Civil Service, demonstrated commitment and integrity throughout his career. Together, they instilled in her the values of exceptionalism and ethical fortitude.
Additionally, outside her familial influences, Ajayi-Lweka draws inspiration from of visionary leaders like Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Michelle Obama, both of whom exhibit the strength and resolve that have enabled them to carve their own paths in traditionally male-dominated spheres.
