In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, companies are turning to Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to navigate the complex world of cybersecurity threats. As per Canalys predictions, the revenue generated by managed services is expected to increase by a substantial 14% in 2024, highlighting the growing demand for expert support in tackling cyberattacks.
To address the challenges and opportunities in this burgeoning market, the newly launched MSP Perspectives 2024 report by Sophos delves into the key areas impacting MSP operations. The report draws insights from a survey of 350 MSPs across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia, providing a comprehensive understanding of the current state of MSP businesses.
One of the significant findings from the report is the prevalent challenges faced by MSPs in their day-to-day operations. The survey revealed that keeping up with the latest cybersecurity solutions and technologies remains a top challenge for 39% of MSPs. Additionally, hiring cybersecurity analysts to accommodate customer growth and staying abreast of evolving cyber threats were cited as key hurdles by MSPs.
Furthermore, the data indicated that the shortage of in-house cybersecurity skills poses a significant risk not only to MSPs themselves but also to their clients’ organizations. Issues such as stolen access data, unpatched vulnerabilities, and the evolving threat landscape present ongoing challenges for MSPs striving to maintain robust cybersecurity measures.
Scott Barlow, Vice President of MSP at Sophos, emphasized the difficulty faced by MSPs in keeping pace with the ever-changing cybersecurity landscape and the global skills shortage, making it challenging to attract and retain cybersecurity talent. The need to adapt to evolving threats while navigating skill shortages underscores the complex reality faced by MSPs in safeguarding their clients’ businesses.
Moreover, the report highlighted the trend of MSPs streamlining their cybersecurity partnerships to enhance efficiency. With over half of MSPs working with only one or two cybersecurity vendors, there is a clear preference for consolidation. The potential time savings of up to 48% through managing all cybersecurity tools from a single platform underscore the benefits of streamlined partnerships for MSPs.
In response to the increasing demand for managed detection and response (MDR) services, MSPs are expanding their service offerings. A significant 81% of MSPs currently offer MDR services, with almost all planning to incorporate it into their portfolios in the near future. The emphasis on third-party vendors for MDR services, particularly those equipped to provide 24/7 incident response, showcases the evolving landscape of cybersecurity services.
To support MSPs in navigating these challenges and opportunities, Sophos offers an MSP program designed to streamline operations, enhance service offerings, and reduce overhead costs. By providing a comprehensive portfolio of managed security services and solutions through the Sophos Central security platform, MSPs can leverage innovative defenses and cybersecurity systems to empower their clients and drive success.
As the cybersecurity landscape continues to evolve, MSPs play a crucial role in safeguarding businesses against emerging threats. By leveraging strategic partnerships, innovative technologies, and industry-leading solutions, MSPs can not only navigate challenges but also drive growth and profitability in this dynamic sector.
