Hitesh Sheth: Cloud, SaaS, Data Center Visibility Boosts Enterprise Risk Assessment

Hitesh Sheth, the CEO of Vectra AI, recently highlighted the critical role of network visibility in enhancing enterprise risk assessment. He emphasized that the network serves as the most robust foundation for comprehending various risks that organizations potentially face. The network’s integral connection with cloud infrastructure, private data centers, SaaS applications, and an assortment of connected devices positions it as a pivotal element in any risk management strategy.

Sheth indicated that network-generated data offers a more reliable source of information compared to logs from compromised systems. This assertion stems from the fact that network data is significantly more challenging for attackers to manipulate, thereby rendering it a trustworthy asset amidst the cybersecurity landscape’s complexities. As organizations increasingly adopt autonomous artificial intelligence agents that may not effectively employ traditional monitoring methods, this network data becomes ever more indispensable. By keenly observing network behavior, organizations can pinpoint probable attack vectors and take proactive steps to mitigate these risks.

During his talk, Sheth provided a nugget of wisdom for Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs): “If you are going to adopt any sort of predictive stance regarding your security, grasping the landscape of your operations—including your vulnerabilities—is vital. Achieving comprehensive observability across all facets of your infrastructure is essential.” He elaborated, stating that the network is the one dataset that interacts with every aspect of an organization’s infrastructure, whether it is in the cloud, within private data centers, or spread across various SaaS applications. This unique position enhances its importance in an organization’s risk management endeavors.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group (ISMG), Sheth delved further into several key topics. Among them, he emphasized the foundational significance of exposure management for establishing predictive security measures within organizations. He also touched upon how cutting-edge AI models have revealed inherent weaknesses in conventional patch management practices. Moreover, Sheth pointed out that organizations should focus on conducting detailed attack-path analyses rather than merely relying on remediation strategies, which often do not address the root causes of vulnerabilities.

Prior to his impactful tenure at Vectra AI, which began in 2012, Hitesh Sheth honed his skills as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Aruba Networks for three years. Sheth’s career path includes a significant role at Juniper Networks, where he served as the Executive Vice President and General Manager for its switching division. Before that, he held the position of Senior Vice President for the Service Layer Technologies group, overseeing security aspects, among others. His early career also includes various senior management roles during his seven-year time at Cisco, solidifying his reputation as an authority in the technology and cybersecurity domains.

In conclusion, Sheth’s insights underline the urgent need for organizations to prioritize network-centric strategies in their approach to risk management. As cyber threats continue to evolve, maintaining visibility through network data will prove vital in safeguarding enterprise environments against complex and sophisticated attacks.
