On 13th March 2023, Kali Linux celebrated a milestone achievement as it marked its 10th anniversary. The celebration was marked by the release of Kali Linux version 2023.1. Now, barely three months after their initial release, Kali Linux has introduced their 2023.2 version, which has a host of enhanced features and tools that better serve its users.

One of the exciting introductions on Kali Linux 2023.2 is the Hyper-V VM Image. Kali Linux users can now access a readily available VM image for Hyper-V, which is a GEN2 image for Hyper-V with an Enhanced Session mode pre-configured. Unlike before, where only virtual box images and virtual machine images were available, the new Hyper-V image provides users with more flexibility.
Kali has also replaced the audio stack server from PulseAudio with Pipewire, which enhances sound experience for Kali users. With Pipewire, users can also compute hashes for files quickly and efficiently by checking the file’s properties, which enables them to check the file’s hash value on different hashing algorithms.
Another exciting addition to Kali Linux 2023.2 is the new tiling assistant called “Tiling Assistant,” which provides window snapping, multi-monitor support, customizable keyboard shortcuts, and personalized settings to enhance tiling support. The new assistant also introduces a better tiling experience, surpassing the two-column layout limitations on the platform.
Kali has updated its top 100 tools and improved its menu icons, categories, and new icon inventions. The new update also introduces new tools such as Cilium-cli, Cosign, Eksctl, Evilginx, GoPhish, Humble, Slim (toolkit), Syft, Terraform, Tetragon, TheHive, Trivy, and Wsgidav.
