In Thunder Bay, Ontario, a cyber-crime investigation has revealed a disturbing trend of intimate images being shared without consent. Thirteen local men have been implicated in this illicit activity, with at least 120 victims identified so far.
The accused individuals recently appeared in court to set a date for a pre-trial on June 16, with a follow-up court date scheduled for June 30. The charges they face are serious, including distributing intimate images without consent, as well as other offenses related to child sexual abuse material, identity fraud, unauthorized use of a computer, luring, and extortion.
The investigation began in 2023 after reports surfaced of intimate images of Thunder Bay women being circulated on an online chat platform. Since then, authorities have been diligent in their efforts to uncover the extent of this illegal activity. More than 1,300 pages of evidence and hundreds of video statements have been compiled, highlighting the intricate nature of this case.
Among the accused, Joshua Wanakamik, 34, is facing charges related to accessing, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse material, along with identity fraud and unauthorized use of a computer. Aaron Stolz, 37, has been charged with distributing images without consent as well as offenses related to child sexual abuse material. Similarly, Darryl Renaud, 38, is facing multiple charges, including distributing images without consent, accessing child sexual abuse material, luring, and extortion.
Other individuals, such as Jonathon Prieston, Lindsey Hunt, Tyler Bluoin, Ryan Madore, James Edgson, Sheldon Price, Bradley Comuzzi, Ian Warren, Jordi Leblanc, and Jordan Maurice, are also facing charges for their involvement in this cyber-crime ring. Each individual is accused of playing a role in distributing intimate images without consent, contributing to the exploitation and violation of privacy of numerous victims.
