Guntur: The crime rate in Palnadu district has seen a significant decline of 7.7% in 2024, with 4,222 cases registered, as reported by SP K Srinivasa Rao. During the year-end crime review conference held on Tuesday, the SP highlighted the successful policing activities that have contributed to this reduction, as well as other key achievements such as 661 convictions achieved through a conviction-based court trial monitoring system.

Among the reported cases in the district, there were 44 murders, 236 SC/ST atrocity cases, and 502 crimes against women. Road accidents also remained a pressing concern, with a total of 580 incidents resulting in 358 fatalities and 251 injuries. In an effort to address this issue, special measures were implemented including the identification of accident-prone black spots, increased inspections, and awareness campaigns, all of which played a role in decreasing the number of accidents.

One of the concerning trends noted by the SP was the significant increase in POCSO cases, with 50 cases reported in 2024 compared to 29 in 2023. Similarly, cybercrimes also saw a spike, rising from 20 cases in 2023 to 60 cases in 2024, indicating a growing awareness among the public about such offenses. Additionally, Lok Adalats successfully resolved 3,522 cases, facilitating quicker delivery of justice in the district.

In an effort to make Palnadu faction-free, the police introduced the ‘Palle Nidra’ initiative, a community-based program that identifies hyper-sensitive and sensitive areas, bolstering surveillance and public engagement. These targeted efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety and tranquility of the district, ultimately working towards a crime-free environment for its residents.

Overall, the concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies in Palnadu have borne fruit in reducing the crime rate and enhancing safety measures in the district. With a focus on community engagement, proactive policing, and innovative initiatives, the authorities are committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring a secure environment for all residents.
