Palo Alto completes acquisition of IBM QRadar SaaS and expands security collaboration

IBM has announced that it will be utilizing Palo Alto Networks’ Cortex XSIAM suite to enhance its managed security services teams and security operations center consulting groups. This move aims to help customers develop next-generation SOC solutions, minimize security risks, enhance visibility, and achieve quicker response times, according to IBM.

Furthermore, IBM plans to further integrate Palo Alto’s AI-powered security platforms internally, adopting Cortex for next-gen security operations and Prisma SASE 3.0 for zero-trust network security to protect over 250,000 of its employees worldwide. IBM also intends to leverage its watsonx technology to build industry-specific capabilities on top of Cortex XSIAM.

IBM revealed that it has swiftly expanded its partnership with Palo Alto Networks by initiating training for over 1,000 IBM consultants on Palo Alto Networks security solutions and delivering joint offerings to aid organizations in incorporating cyber resiliency into all aspects of their business.

In addition to strengthening their partnership, IBM and Palo Alto Networks have merged Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma Cloud platform with IBM Consulting’s global system integration and managed security services. This collaboration will offer tailored solutions across the DevSecOps lifecycle, enhancing cyber resiliency for cloud and enterprise applications, according to IBM.

The announcement of the sale of QRadar in May prompted Steven Dickens, chief technology advisor at Futurum Group, to comment on the consolidation in the security market. Dickens noted that the sale signifies the departure of a major security information and event management (SIEM) software provider from the security operations sector and highlights the rise of newer XDR offerings, which are gaining traction at the expense of SIEM tools.

Overall, the partnership between IBM and Palo Alto Networks aims to revolutionize the cybersecurity landscape by combining their respective expertise and technologies to provide customers with advanced security solutions that ensure cyber resiliency across various business operations.
