A woman from Ayilur village in Perambalur district fell victim to online fraudsters on Instagram, who promised her lucrative trading opportunities and ended up swindling her of a whopping ₹63.87 lakh. The cyber crime team of the Perambalur district police sprang into action following the complaint filed by the woman, identified as Selvakumari, in July. After months of investigation and tracking, the team managed to nab two suspects in Gujarat who were allegedly involved in the scam.

The suspects, Sharma Sunil Kumar and Sharma Bansilal from Vadodara district, were apprehended by the cyber crime team in Gujarat. Along with the arrests, the team also seized ₹50,000 in cash, four mobile phones, five SIM cards, and seven ATM cards from the fraudsters. The duo was subsequently brought back to Perambalur and presented before a judicial magistrate court, where they were remanded to judicial custody as per the police press release.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with engaging in online financial transactions and the importance of staying vigilant against cyber crimes. As more and more individuals turn to digital platforms for various activities, scammers are also finding new and inventive ways to deceive unsuspecting victims. In this case, the fraudsters used social media, specifically Instagram, to lure the woman into their trap with the promise of high returns on investment.

The deceivers managed to swindle a significant amount of money from the victim through bank transactions, leaving her in a state of shock and distress. It serves as a cautionary tale for others to exercise caution while interacting with unknown individuals online, especially when it comes to financial matters. The Perambalur district police’s swift action in apprehending the suspects is commendable and underscores the importance of dedicated cyber crime teams in tackling such offenses.

The financial loss suffered by Selvakumari underscores the need for increased awareness about online scams and the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly. The Perambalur district police have urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious while engaging in online transactions, especially with unfamiliar entities. By taking proactive measures and staying informed about the latest cyber threats, individuals can better protect themselves from falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.

As technology continues to play a central role in our daily lives, it is crucial for individuals to educate themselves about the potential risks and vulnerabilities associated with online activities. While the convenience of digital platforms is undeniable, it also opens up new avenues for cyber criminals to exploit unsuspecting individuals. By staying informed, practicing skepticism, and promptly reporting any fraudulent activities, we can collectively combat cyber crimes and safeguard our financial well-being.
