Cigent Technologies, a renowned data security company, has established itself as a trusted resource for data protection solutions and has a long-standing relationship with the U.S. government. Their mission is to address advanced cyber threats by actively protecting data with zero trust, hardware-enforced security controls that make data inaccessible to even the most sophisticated adversaries, whether they have physical or remote device access. This approach not only prevents ransomware and data theft but also helps organizations achieve compliance.
Cigent provides comprehensive data protection throughout the entire lifecycle of data, with prevention-based defenses embedded into storage and individual files. Leveraging their decades of data recovery, cybersecurity, and device sanitization experience, Cigent has developed highly effective prevention methods that go beyond anything currently available. By placing automated attack prevention as close to the data as possible, within the storage itself and individual files, sophisticated attacks can be mitigated.
In April 2023, Cigent introduced their Secure SSD+, a secure drive that provides anti-ransomware capabilities within the storage hardware itself. This innovative solution is now available for enterprise customers and the public. The technology has been incorporated into Seagate Government Solutions’ Barracuda 515 M.2 solid-state drive (SSD), which is now available to government agencies through Carahsoft Technology Corp., a trusted government IT solutions provider. Carahsoft works with reseller partners and systems integrators to make Seagate’s SSD widely accessible to the public sector through various contracts.
The BarraCuda 515 SSD offers several key advantages, including FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certification, compliance with data security mandates, full disk encryption, protection from physical and remote access attacks, tamper-evident coating for physical security, secure erase functionality for safe retirement or redeployment of SSDs, and compliance with international trade agreements.
Cigent’s partnership with Lenovo was also announced earlier this month, with Cigent powering Lenovo’s ThinkShield Data Defense. Starting in September, Cigent’s prevention-based defenses will be available for purchase with Lenovo PCs. The Cigent software detects and alerts security personnel, SIEMs, and SOARs through the Cigent Data Defense console when a ransomware attack is initiated, enabling immediate protection for other Cigent-protected PCs in the organization.
The Cigent Secure SSD+ not only provides protection against ransomware but also ensures data integrity and prevents attempts to disable security controls. It includes features such as complete erasure verification, detailed data access logs, and safeguards against disabling security controls. Future updates will further enhance the drive’s security by preventing cloning, wiping, or unauthorized access when the system is booted from an alternate operating system.
Overall, Cigent offers a unique and comprehensive approach to data security, protecting organizations of all sizes against advanced cyber threats. By embedding prevention-based defenses directly into storage and individual files, Cigent provides an effective defense against ransomware, data theft, and other sophisticated attacks. With their innovative solutions and partnerships with companies like Seagate Government Solutions and Lenovo, Cigent is at the forefront of the fight against cyber threats, ensuring the security and integrity of valuable data.
