The canton Schaffhausen, one of the primary targets of the attack, announced that its website was back online just before midday after experiencing a Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack. Fortunately, Informatik Schaffhausen, in collaboration with an external provider, successfully fended off the attack, ensuring that the administration’s operations were not affected.
In a similar fashion, the Schaffhausen energy supplier SH Power also faced issues with its website, showing an error message in the morning. However, the site was restored before midday. On the other hand, the websites for the cities of Sierre and Geneva remained inaccessible, adding to the magnitude of the cyber attack.
This recent incident is part of a series of cyber attacks that have targeted various entities in Switzerland. The cantonal banks of Zurich and Vaud were also affected on Tuesday, while several Lucerne municipalities experienced website paralysis the day before.
