Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards Recognize Cybersecurity Champions in London

On October 22, 2026, Eskenzi PR proudly announced the winners of the tenth annual Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards during a vibrant ceremony at St Barts Pub in London. This prestigious event serves to honor the unsung heroes within the UK cybersecurity industry, acknowledging their vital contributions to creating a safer and more inclusive business environment. The awards highlight professionals from various sectors, including educators, leaders, and diversity advocates, all working tirelessly to secure digital spaces.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of CultureAI, Filigran, OneAdvanced, and The Zensory. Additional support came from CyberASAP and Pulse Conferences, while media partners included notable entities such as Computer Weekly, Information Security Buzz, and The IT Security Guru.

Yvonne Eskenzi, Director of Eskenzi PR, emphasized the importance of these awards, stating, “The Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards are all about recognising the incredible people working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our businesses, communities, and country safe.” She acknowledged that the cybersecurity field often goes underappreciated, with the efforts and accomplishments of its workforce frequently overlooked. However, this event provided a crucial platform to celebrate these dedicated individuals and their remarkable achievements, which shape the future of cybersecurity.

Attendees at the ceremony included nominees and their guests, who were welcomed to a celebratory evening free of charge, an aspect that sets the Security Serious Unsung Heroes Awards apart from other industry awards. This unique approach aims to foster wider participation and promote recognition of outstanding efforts within the cybersecurity realm.

The awards span several categories, showcasing excellence and commitment across different areas in the cybersecurity sector. The winners for this year included notable figures such as Phil Muncaster, recognized as Cyber Correspondent, and Andy James, the Founder and CEO of Custodian360, honored with the title of Godfather of Security. Other deserving recipients included Dr. Emma Philpott, who received the Godmother of Security award, and Peter Slevin, honored as Data Guardian. Andrea Litherland, the CISO at Domestic and General, was awarded CISO Supremo, while the Revenge Porn Helpline was recognized as a Security Avengers.

Categories also spotlighted educators and advocates, illustrating the vital role education plays in shaping a secure digital landscape. Dr. Chidimma Opara, a Lecturer in Computer Science at Teesside University, was awarded Best Educator, and Nikki Webb, Director at Custodian360, was celebrated as a Cybersecurity Wellbeing Advocate for her outstanding contributions towards promoting employee health within the cybersecurity workspace.

Various other awards recognized individuals who are championing diversity in the field and young rising stars making waves in the industry. Segan Ebenezer Olaniyan, an Information Security Analyst at Kraken Technologies, was selected as the Diversity Champion, while Jordan Daglish from Acumen Cyber was noted as Apprentice/Rising Star.

The event also featured a raffle benefiting the NSPCC Childline, raising £250 to support the charity’s initiatives. The awards were presented and compared by Clive Room, Director of Pulse Conferences, alongside Yvonne Eskenzi, reaffirming the commitment of these leaders in the field to recognize and elevate the importance of cybersecurity roles.

A panel of judges composed of recognized industry figures evaluated the nominations for this year’s awards. Among them were Yvonne Eskenzi herself, Alex Scroxton from Computer Weekly, and other notable professionals from CyberASAP, Infosecurity Magazine, and more.

Several award winners shared their heartfelt thoughts on receiving such recognition. Olly Carter, honored as Channel Champion, expressed gratitude for being part of a talented team, reinforcing the idea that success within the industry is a collective effort. The Cyber Agony Aunts, Rebecca Taylor and Amelia Hewitt, who received the Voice of Security Award, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of community and open dialogue in the cybersecurity field.
