Sophos, a leader in cybersecurity, joins the global community in celebrating International Day of the Girl on October 11th. This day shines a light on the unique challenges and opportunities that girls face worldwide, especially in regards to gender inequality in crucial areas such as education, nutrition, legal rights, healthcare, and protection from discrimination.
The company is dedicated to advocating for girls’ rights and gender equality, empowering young women to achieve their full potential. This year, Sophos Women in Technology Network (SWiT) is taking significant steps to inspire and encourage young women to explore careers in the technology sector.
In the United Kingdom, Sophos welcomed a group of students from a local school to their Abingdon office for a student round table event. Aimed at girls aged 12 to 13, the event included activities and insights from leaders in various business units, as well as a cypher game designed to spark interest in technical courses as potential career paths.
In the United States, Sophos hosted a “Cookies and Conversation” event for girls at a local school in Dallas, featuring Dr. Rickenya Sisk from IDEA Public Schools. The event aimed to inspire young girls to consider careers in technology and appreciate the significance of cybersecurity, showcasing the roles available at Sophos.
In the Philippines, Sophos organized an empowering webinar titled “Empowering Women in Cybersecurity,” connecting female students and professionals in the industry. In partnership with EC-Council ASEAN, the event featured women leaders in cybersecurity sharing their personal journeys, success stories, and valuable tips for navigating careers in technology.
Moreover, in the Asia-Pacific region, SWiT is proud to sponsor 10 employees to join the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN). This organization is committed to educating women and girls about security and increasing female representation in the field, providing members with tools, knowledge, networking opportunities, and mentoring support.
In Canada, the Americas Support team launched the FY25 SWiT Bursary program to support gender diversity in the tech industry by offering CAD $4500 bursaries to women at four Canadian technical schools. The program aims to evaluate past bursaries’ success, make improvements, explore additional funding opportunities for STEM programs, and foster relationships between students and SWiT members.
As Sophos continues to champion gender equality and support young women in technology, the company remains dedicated to creating a world where every girl can thrive and succeed. By actively engaging in initiatives that encourage girls to pursue careers in technology and cybersecurity, Sophos is making a positive impact on gender equality and diversity in the industry.
