Kevin Hickey, the CEO of Spur, has expressed optimism regarding the acquisition, emphasizing that it will empower the Orlando-based company to expand its research team tasked with the identification of various forms of malicious infrastructure. These include residential proxies and VPNs that attackers often utilize to mask their activities. With this increased capacity for research, Spur aims to expedite the identification of such threats, ensuring a timely response to potential cyber incidents.

“The investment allows us to build out the research team significantly,” Hickey stated. “We have already tripled the size of our research team. Furthermore, we have laid the groundwork for a marketing team and a sales team, all geared towards positioning Spur for growth.” This proactive approach reflects the company’s commitment to staying ahead of cyber threats and improving the intelligence they provide to their customers.

Founded in 2017, Spur commenced operations with a team of 43 individuals, and prior to this deal, it had not engaged in any external investment. Under Hickey’s leadership, who assumed the role of CEO in August 2025 after a storied tenure at BeyondTrust, the company is now strategically positioned to leverage its newfound resources to enhance its technological capabilities and broaden its market share.
