With Data Privacy Day approaching, industry experts have shared their views on the latest data privacy trends. Allon Mureinik, senior manager of software engineering at the Synopsys Software Integrity Group, emphasized the importance of companies prioritizing the protection of their and their employees’ data. He highlighted the need for companies to define a set of policies about what can be shared, how it can be shared, and by whom. Mureinik also stressed the importance of sharing these policies with employees and providing training to ensure that they understand their role in protecting the company’s data.

Eric Schwake, Director of Cybersecurity Strategy at Salt Security, emphasized the need for organizations to understand how APIs are utilized and to promptly identify any potential risks. He provided tips for robust data privacy and security, including understanding APIs, embracing access control, implementing encryption, and regularly scanning APIs for vulnerabilities.

Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-Founder of Keeper Security, highlighted the importance of basic cybersecurity measures such as creating strong and unique passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and keeping software up to date. He encouraged individuals to proactively protect themselves by following these basic cybersecurity measures in the evolving digital world.

Bhagwat Swaroop, President of Digital Security Solutions at Entrust, emphasized that privacy is personal and the importance of integrating security as part of the user experience. He highlighted the rising challenges in cybersecurity, including AI-generated phishing scams, and stressed the critical role of phishing resistant MFA technology as a foundation for implementing Zero Trust principles.

Steve Bradford, Senior Vice President EMEA at SailPoint, urged organizations to proactively protect their data and not wait to be led by government regulation. He emphasized the growing threat landscape and the need for companies to complete preparations to better protect themselves and their customers, particularly ahead of regulations like NIS2.

As Data Privacy Day approaches, it is clear that the protection of data has become a critical priority for both individuals and organizations. With the increasing sophistication of cyber threats, it is essential for companies to prioritize data privacy and security, implement robust policies, and provide ongoing training and support to employees to ensure the protection of sensitive information. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, proactive measures and a commitment to data privacy are vital to mitigating the risks of data breaches and protecting the privacy of individuals.
