Bloomington Police Department Detectives Honored for Excellence in Cybercrime Investigations

In a recent development, detectives from the Bloomington Police Department (BPD) have been commended by the Indiana State Police (ISP) for their outstanding work in tackling internet crimes against children. The recognition was announced by Bloomington Police Department Captain Ryan Pedigo in a news release shared with the media.

During a ceremony held on June 21, 2024, the BPD was awarded the prestigious title of the 2023 Indiana ICAC Task Force Affiliate of the Year. The accolade was presented in Indianapolis by ISP First Sergeant Christopher Cecil, who serves as the Commander of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

The recipients of this esteemed award were Detective Kevin Frank, Detective Jon Muscato, Sergeant Cody Forston, and Lieutenant Lucas Tate, who were lauded for their exceptional contributions throughout the year 2023. The BPD detectives undertook investigations into 168 cybercrime complaints involving children, with a significant portion of these cases originating as cybertips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Their thorough investigations resulted in the issuance of 53 court orders, 172 search warrants, and the forensic examination of numerous digital media devices, including computers and phones. These diligent efforts led to the identification and arrest of 13 suspects, who now face both state and federal charges. Moreover, ongoing investigations have expanded beyond the confines of Bloomington, encompassing cases in Monroe County and surrounding areas.

Chief Michael Diekhoff expressed his admiration for the dedication and professionalism exhibited by the ICAC Task Force members, emphasizing the vital role they play in safeguarding the children within the community.
