Rapid7, Inc., a prominent player in extended risk and threat detection, recently made headlines with the announcement of its definitive agreement to acquire Noetic Cyber, an innovative company specializing in cyber asset surface management (CAASM).

This strategic move by Rapid7 is aimed at enhancing its existing cybersecurity solutions by incorporating Noetic’s advanced CAASM capabilities. The goal is to provide customers with a more holistic view of their digital environments, ultimately strengthening their cyber defenses.

With the integration of Noetic Cyber’s CAASM solution into Rapid7’s platform, customers can expect unparalleled visibility into both internal and external assets across on-premise and cloud environments. This enhanced visibility empowers customers to gain insights from both inside-out and outside-in perspectives, enabling them to anticipate threats and manage risks more effectively.

Moreover, the integration will allow customers to prioritize risks with threat-aware context, identify critical exposures, improve signal-to-noise ratios across security teams, and enhance asset inventory. The ultimate goal is to reduce risks through pragmatic remediation guidance and automation, while also boosting efficiency and productivity by providing highly correlated asset and resource views with searchable risk context.

Corey Thomas, CEO of Rapid7, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, highlighting the challenges posed by fragmented attack surfaces in the cybersecurity landscape. He stated that adding Noetic’s solution to their platform positions Rapid7 to deliver a more productive security operations experience, making it more accessible to the teams that need it the most.

The acquisition also addresses a critical industry challenge highlighted in the 2024 Gartner® Innovation Insight report on Attack Surface Management. The report revealed that only 17% of organizations can identify and inventory a majority of their assets, underscoring the pressing need for improved asset visibility and management in the cybersecurity space.

Paul Ayers, CEO and co-founder of Noetic Cyber, underscored the benefits of the acquisition, emphasizing that Rapid7 customers will now have better visibility and insights to prioritize exposures and take action to reduce cyber risks. Noetic Cyber, founded in 2019, has been dedicated to empowering security teams to command their attack surface through proactive cyber asset and exposure management.

The acquisition, expected to close during Rapid7’s fiscal third quarter, is not anticipated to have a significant impact on the company’s 2024 Annualized Recurring Revenue (ARR). Rapid7 plans to make Noetic Cyber’s capabilities available to its customers this summer, further enhancing its comprehensive security solutions for over 11,000 global customers to manage cloud risk and detect threats with precision.

In conclusion, Rapid7’s acquisition of Noetic Cyber marks a significant step towards offering customers enhanced visibility and risk management capabilities in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape. By leveraging Noetic’s advanced CAASM solution, Rapid7 aims to provide customers with the tools and insights they need to stay ahead of threats and secure their digital environments effectively.
