This attack has had severe implications on the company’s ability to monitor prisoners and track the prison vans used for inmate transportation.

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a division of GCHQ, has put forward the theory that the cyber attack could potentially be linked to a cybercriminal group with ties to Russian intelligence. However, this theory remains speculative and lacks solid evidence to support it.

In response to the breach, Serco has taken precautionary measures by disabling the surveillance systems utilized for monitoring its transport vans. Furthermore, physical surveillance of the prison facilities has been heightened to ensure the security and safety of the inmates.
