Tenable, a cybersecurity company, has announced the launch of ExposureAI, a new security offering that leverages generative AI to transform threat data into actionable intelligence. The product was introduced at the Black Hat USA 2023 event, which is highlighting the role of AI and large language models in the cybersecurity industry. Tenable’s ExposureAI integrates these capabilities into their exposure management platform, Tenable One, and is accompanied by another tool called Exposure Graph, which serves as a data lake to feed ExposureAI.
ExposureAI is designed to provide security teams with enhanced capabilities to analyze assets and exposures, understand contextual information, and prioritize remediation efforts. The platform consists of three core features: Search, Explain, and Action. With the Search feature, users can ask natural language queries to gain insights into their environment and identify relevant information. Explain provides mitigation advice by offering clear visibility and concise analysis of attack paths, specific assets, or security findings. Lastly, Action provides actionable insights and recommended actions based on the highest-priority issues and exposures within an organization’s environment.
Glen Pendley, CTO of Tenable, highlighted the importance of data in differentiating ExposureAI from similar AI-powered offerings by other companies such as Google and IBM. He pointed out that the quantity and quality of data play a vital role in deriving value from AI models and that Tenable possesses the most extensive and best vulnerability data. This data-driven approach allows Tenable to leverage its strengths in vulnerability management and provide customers with valuable insights.
Pendley stated that Tenable aims to fully launch and make ExposureAI generally available by the end of the quarter. While some generative AI capabilities will be freely available to all Tenable One customers, others will be included under the Tenable One Enterprise tier.
At the Black Hat event, Google will be holding a dedicated session on effectively integrating AI models based on large language models into organizations. The presenters emphasized that generative AI products should be seen as a supplementary workflow, specifically suited for less complex and lower-risk tasks. Pendley echoed a similar sentiment, stating that these tools can lower the barrier to extracting value from security data and make security professionals more efficient. However, he believes that such tools do not replace security departments entirely but rather enable individuals to have a more meaningful impact within their roles.
With the growing demand for AI-powered security solutions, Tenable’s ExposureAI brings a new approach to threat intelligence and vulnerability management. By leveraging generative AI and its extensive threat data, Tenable aims to provide actionable insights that empower security teams and make their efforts more efficient. The full launch of ExposureAI is eagerly anticipated, as it promises to offer valuable capabilities to organizations seeking to enhance their cybersecurity defenses.
