Thailand’s National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) and Google Cloud have come together in a strategic partnership to bolster the country’s cybersecurity infrastructure. This collaboration, announced during the Safer Songkran festival, aims to fortify the defense mechanisms against the rising cyber threats that pose risks to both citizens and government organizations. The alliance is an extension of the existing collaboration between the Thai government and Google, focusing on enhancing online security measures.

The partnership between NCSA and Google Cloud will focus on sharing threat intelligence and developing incident response capabilities to combat evolving cyber threats. With the rapid pace of digital transformation in Thailand, robust cybersecurity measures have become indispensable to safeguard against malicious activities.

One notable achievement highlighted in this collaboration is the anti-scam feature introduced by Google Play Protect in conjunction with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) back in 2024. This feature has successfully prevented over 6.6 million high-risk app installations, demonstrating its efficacy in protecting users. Additionally, new security measures have been implemented to thwart social engineering attacks targeting Thai individuals.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Jantararuangtong, emphasized the critical need for strengthening cybersecurity to combat online scams. He commended Google for its active role in safeguarding citizens through cyber literacy programs and the implementation of enhanced security features in Google Play Protect. The Secretary General of NCSA, Amorn Chomchoey, underscored the importance of combining skilled talent with advanced technology to bolster Thailand’s cyber defenses.

NCSA will deploy Google Cloud Cybershield, an AI-powered security platform that integrates automation, analytics, and threat intelligence to enhance centralized monitoring of security threats across public sector entities. Through ThaiCERT, a national cyber defense center, a more coordinated response to cyber threats targeting government agencies and critical infrastructure will be established.

Key components of the collaboration include access to Google Threat Intelligence, Mandiant’s threat insights, and VirusTotal’s database to counter cybercriminal tactics and state-sponsored attacks. Mandiant consultants will provide training in incident response, digital forensics, and malware analysis to expand Thailand’s pool of cybersecurity experts within the public sector.

Aside from national security, the partnership also aims to enhance individual user protection by integrating Google Cloud Web Risk into government cybersecurity frameworks. This integration will help defend against online scams and phishing attempts by providing real-time intelligence on malicious websites.

Google Cloud’s Thailand Country Director, Annop Siritikul, highlighted the economic significance of cybersecurity, especially with Thailand’s digital economy poised for substantial growth in the coming years. By leveraging AI-driven security technologies and advanced threat intelligence, Thailand aims to strengthen its position as a cybersecurity leader in the Asia-Pacific region.

The collaboration between NCSA and Google Cloud is a significant step towards building a more secure digital ecosystem for Thailand, ensuring that individuals and organizations can safely navigate the digital landscape. Through public-private partnerships and innovative security solutions, Thailand is paving the way for a secure digital future.
