Thales has introduced a new solution called OneWelcome FIDO Key Lifecycle Management, aimed at assisting large organizations in effectively deploying and managing FIDO security passkeys on a large scale. This innovation combines an interoperable management platform with Thales hardware FIDO security keys, specifically designed for use in large organizations. The main goal of this solution is to help Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) accelerate and secure their transition to passwordless authentication by managing FIDO security keys at scale throughout their lifecycle with simplicity and efficiency. Additionally, CISOs can benefit from Thales’ expertise in cybersecurity and handling complex projects.

Authentication plays a critical role in securing identities, and Thales is dedicated to supporting organizations in their shift towards passwordless authentication. OneWelcome FIDO Key Lifecycle Management is designed to remove the obstacles hindering a seamless adoption of this technology, making it easier for IT teams to manage FIDO security keys beyond just the enrollment stage. This solution is a vital component of Thales’ Passwordless 360° approach, which encourages organizations to implement passwordless authentication on a large scale and enjoy its strategic advantages, as emphasized by Danny de Vreeze, VP of Identity & Access Management at Thales.

FIDO security keys are considered the industry standard for protecting enterprises from phishing attacks. However, the cumbersome self-registration and lifecycle management processes often result in user frustration, increased IT overhead, and delayed deployment of passwordless authentication. With the unique capabilities of the OneWelcome FIDO Key Lifecycle Management solution, IT teams can pre-register keys and manage them securely and efficiently from enrollment to revocation. By taking the burden off end users, this solution enhances end-user productivity, accelerates the deployment of FIDO authentication on a large scale, and ensures the security of the entire FIDO key lifecycle.

As a key member of The FIDO Alliance, Thales is committed to advancing the mission of reducing the world’s reliance on passwords through simpler and stronger authentication methods. Andrew Shikiar, Executive Director and CEO of The FIDO Alliance, acknowledges Thales’ support in promoting wider deployment of FIDO standards with its device-bound passkey Management Solution, which includes full key lifecycle management.

The interoperable management platform is seamlessly integrated with FIDO2 provisioning APIs to Microsoft Entra ID, allowing organizations to pre-register Thales FIDO keys on behalf of their end users. This integration enables enterprises adopting Microsoft 365 to provide secure and streamlined authentication to their users right from the start. Thales further solidifies its reputation as an Identity Trailblazer by winning recognition at the 2024 Microsoft Security Excellence Awards for its innovative IAM solutions.

By utilizing FIDO2 provisioning APIs and collaborating closely with Thales, Microsoft is empowering organizations to implement phishing-resistant authentication on a large scale. Natee Pretikul, Principal Product Management Lead at Microsoft Security, highlights how pre-registering end users for a passkey (FIDO2) credential enables them to quickly adopt phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication methods.

In conclusion, the launch of Thales’ OneWelcome FIDO Key Lifecycle Management solution signals a significant step forward in facilitating the deployment and management of FIDO security keys for large organizations. By simplifying and securing the process of passwordless authentication, this solution paves the way for enhanced cybersecurity measures and improved user experience in the digital landscape.
