Hyderabad: In a shocking turn of events, the city cybercrime unit (CCCU) has successfully apprehended Jale Chandra Shekhar Reddy, a resident of Saroornagar, for his involvement in a fraudulent scheme targeting a 73-year-old city resident. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was lured by Reddy into purchasing gold at an unbelievably low price of Rs 50,000 for 10 grams, when the market value was significantly higher.
According to reports, the victim received a call from Reddy back in December 2024, where he not only offered him the lucrative deal but also dropped names of individuals known to the victim to gain his trust. Falling for the trap laid out by Reddy, the victim found himself agreeing to the deal, blinded by the promise of a bargain he couldn’t resist. “The fraudster was cunning in his approach, playing on the victim’s familiarity with the names he mentioned, which ultimately led to the victim putting his trust in Reddy,” stated CCS DCP Dara Kavitha.
The victim was further deceived into believing that the transaction had to be kept confidential, as Reddy emphasized the need for secrecy. Without a second thought, the victim proceeded to transfer a whopping Rs 5 lakh into various bank accounts provided by Reddy, under the pretense of buying the gold at the promised price. Unfortunately, what followed was a series of delays and excuses from Reddy regarding the delivery of the gold, leaving the victim in a state of uncertainty and growing suspicion.
As the victim continued to wait for the promised gold to materialize, Reddy shamelessly resorted to asking for additional funds to cover expenses supposedly incurred during the transaction process. Gradually, the victim found himself trapped in a web of deceit, with Reddy preying on his vulnerability and desperation to make the scheme work in his favor. Eventually, all communication from Reddy ceased, leaving the victim in a state of shock and disbelief over the betrayal he had fallen victim to.
Unable to bear the weight of the loss and deceit any longer, the victim decided to seek justice by approaching the authorities and filing a complaint against Reddy. Subsequently, the CCCU sprang into action, launching a thorough investigation that ultimately led to the arrest of Reddy for his fraudulent activities. “The arrest of Jale Chandra Shekhar Reddy serves as a warning to others who may be contemplating similar acts of deception and exploitation. The cybercrime unit remains committed to protecting citizens from falling prey to such fraudulent schemes,” stated an official from the CCCU.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking in the digital world, where criminals like Reddy exploit the trust and vulnerability of unsuspecting individuals for personal gain. It is imperative for citizens to exercise caution and vigilance while engaging in financial transactions or deals online, and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities promptly. The swift action taken by the CCCU in apprehending Reddy stands as a testament to their dedication in combating cybercrime and ensuring justice for victims of such deceitful practices.
