The Mount Kisco Surgery Center LLC, operating as The Ambulatory Surgery Center of Westchester (ASCW), recently disclosed a data security breach that potentially exposed the personal and health information of certain employees and patients. The incident, which was discovered on November 3, 2023, involved unauthorized access to an employee’s email account between October 23, 2023, and November 3, 2023.

In response to the breach, ASCW immediately took measures to secure the compromised account and enlisted the services of a digital forensics and incident response firm to investigate the extent of the intrusion. The investigation revealed that files containing sensitive information, including names, Social Security numbers, medical records, and financial data, were accessed during the unauthorized access period.

After conducting a thorough review of the affected data, ASCW identified individuals whose personal or protected health information may have been compromised. On May 30, 2024, the organization confirmed the presence of sensitive information in the compromised account and proceeded to notify impacted individuals via written communication sent through the mail on June 26, 2024.

To prevent similar incidents in the future, ASCW has implemented enhanced network security measures and safeguards. Additionally, the organization has set up a toll-free call center to address any inquiries or concerns related to the data breach. The call center operates Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm EST and can be reached at 1-888-715-8252.
