This high reporting rate underscores the growing awareness of the importance of engaging with authorities to address cyber threats effectively.

One of the key insights from the survey is the variation in support and response mechanisms offered by different countries. The United States, the UK, and Australia are among the countries with dedicated agencies to assist victims of cyberattacks. These agencies provide immediate remediation support, policy guidance insights, and facilitate efforts to takedown cybercriminal gangs.

The survey also highlights the different ways in which organizations receive support from law enforcement and official bodies. From advice on dealing with the attack to help investigating the incident and recovering encrypted data, victims benefit from a range of assistance tailored to their specific needs. The level of support varies by country, with some nations offering more comprehensive assistance than others.

Despite the generally positive trend of increased reporting and support for ransomware victims, the survey also identifies reasons why some organizations choose not to report attacks. Concerns about negative impacts on the organization, such as fines or charges, and a lack of perceived benefits from reporting are cited as common reasons for non-disclosure. However, it is crucial for organizations to recognize the importance of engaging with authorities to combat cyber threats effectively.

In conclusion, the findings of the Sophos survey underscore the prevalence of ransomware attacks and the critical role of reporting in mitigating their impact. By fostering greater collaboration between the public and private sectors at a global level, organizations can better equip themselves to combat the rising tide of cyber threats.
