Trellix, a leader in data security solutions, has recently announced significant advancements to its Trellix DLP Endpoint Complete, set to be available globally in the second quarter of 2025. These enhancements are designed to bolster the company’s data loss prevention (DLP) solutions, offering customers a multi-faceted approach to safeguarding sensitive information. The new features will enable the protection of data in non-text file formats, enhance compliance through visual labeling capabilities, and stop potential data exfiltration through text submissions in web forms, including AI chat interactions. Additionally, the updated solution aims to ensure safety during wireless file-sharing between macOS devices.

Ted Wilson, the Senior Director of Product Management for Data Security at Trellix, emphasized the importance of these new capabilities. He stated, "By extending DLP capabilities to non-text formats and supporting emerging channels like AI web chats and AirDrop, we’re equipping customers to stay ahead of evolving threats and confidently embrace new technologies." His comments highlight a growing concern among organizations regarding insider threats and compliance issues. As organizations increasingly rely on digital communication and file-sharing, the risks associated with data breaches have also escalated.

The recent statistics paint a concerning picture: nearly one-third of organizations reported experiencing an insider threat attack within the last year. Furthermore, as the regulatory landscape grows increasingly complex, resource-strained compliance teams find themselves under immense pressure. Close to eight in ten Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) believe that the pace of regulatory changes is becoming unsustainable. This context underscores the need for robust solutions like Trellix DLP Endpoint Complete, which is designed to protect sensitive information, mitigate data leaks, and improve compliance in both Windows and macOS environments.

The enhancements introduced with Trellix’s DLP Endpoint Complete come with a suite of significant features aimed at preventing data exfiltration and ensuring compliance:

  1. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on Endpoint (Windows): This feature protects sensitive information within non-text file formats by extracting text from various sources like images, screenshots, PDFs, and scanned documents. It supports a wide range of languages, including most Western and Asian languages, thus offering increased visibility for organizations dealing with diverse clientele.

  2. Text Upload Blocking (Windows): This functionality is crucial in preventing sensitive text from being submitted through web forms. It specifically targets data leakage occurring via browsers and common digital communication channels, including web-based chat and GenAI prompts, effectively mitigating the risks of inadvertent data exposures.

  3. Visual Labeling (Windows): To enhance compliance and reduce user errors, this feature ensures that sensitive documents are distinctly marked. By employing a unified classification system that can be color-coded, organizations can enhance user awareness regarding the sensitivity of the information they handle.

  4. AirDrop and Clipboard Protection (macOS): Recognizing the rising use of Mac devices, this feature monitors and blocks attempts to share sensitive data via AirDrop and Clipboard functionalities, addressing another potential vulnerability in data sharing practices.

In addition to these features, Trellix currently provides its customers access to the DLP Network OCR add-on, which boosts productivity and enhances visibility concerning the protection of unstructured data. The upcoming release further expands this initiative by introducing an OCR add-on for the Endpoint and a comprehensive OCR Suite that will be compatible across all of Trellix’s DLP products. Notably, all customers within the Trellix Data Security Suite will gain access to the OCR Suite at no additional cost.

Ultimately, Trellix’s advancements in DLP solutions showcase the company’s commitment to addressing the evolving landscape of cyber threats and regulatory compliance. By offering sophisticated features designed to safeguard sensitive data and streamline compliance efforts, Trellix is positioning itself as a vital partner for organizations navigating the complexities of data security in a digital-first world. As organizations continue to adapt to new technologies and communication channels, solutions like Trellix DLP Endpoint Complete become essential in preempting potential threats and fostering a secure environment for data management.
