Two cybercrime gang members were apprehended by the Bhuj local crime branch (LCB) in Kutch district, bringing to light a nationwide cyber fraud operation. Identified as Shishpal alias Subhash Dhanaram (31) and Govindram alias Govardhanram Bishnoi (31) from Jodhpur district in Rajasthan, the duo was found in possession of a slew of incriminating items, including 42 debit cards, 26 passbooks, 47 cheque books, electronic devices, and identification documents like Aadhaar card and PAN card, as well as forged agreements and financial records.

LCB inspector SN Chudasama revealed that the suspects had nefariously manufactured identity documents such as PAN cards and Aadhaar cards to establish bank accounts. Moreover, they falsified business documents and partnership agreements to set up current and savings accounts across various banks. These accounts served as conduits for processing illicitly acquired funds from victims in different states, which were subsequently withdrawn through cheques.

Upon registering a case against the perpetrators at Bhuj City B Division police station under multiple sections of the BNS Act, which encompass forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy, and violations of the IT Act, authorities delved into the nefarious activities that unfolded through examination of the bank accounts via the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The analysis uncovered cyber frauds amounting to approximately Rs 21.81 lakh across four accounts, with significant incidents recorded in 2025 involving the suspects, including a case in Behrampur, Odisha (Rs 4.5 lakh), and a fraud in Cyberabad, Telangana (Rs 1 crore).

The accused managed to open 55 accounts across 17 banks within a span of two months using counterfeit documentation. A total of Rs 1.35 crore was deposited into assorted bank accounts, with Rs 1.32 crore being subsequently withdrawn. As investigators delved deeper into Bishnoi’s background, they unearthed nine prior cases against him in Rajasthan, ranging from theft, Pocso Act violations, IT Act breaches, to fraud and forgery. Both accused individuals were employed as drivers, with proceeds from their fraudulent activities allegedly being funneled to Rajasthan through angadia services.

Acting on a tip-off received on February 1 pertaining to individuals from Rajasthan fabricating spurious documents for illicit banking maneuvers, the police promptly conducted a raid, ultimately leading to the apprehension of the two suspects at the specified location. Ongoing investigations are aimed at tracking the money transfers to Rajasthan, identifying potential accomplices, assessing financial gains, and scrutinizing the purported involvement of local bank personnel in Bhuj in facilitating the illegal activities.

The arrests of Shishpal alias Subhash Dhanaram and Govindram alias Govardhanram Bishnoi shed light on the pervasive nature of cyber fraud schemes plaguing the nation, underscoring the need for stringent measures to combat such criminal enterprises and safeguard the financial interests of unsuspecting victims. The law enforcement authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to dismantle such nefarious operations and bring the perpetrators to justice, thereby upholding the rule of law and ensuring the integrity of the banking system.
