In a recent report by Infosecurity Europe, it has been revealed that UK organizations are placing a high priority on cybersecurity, with a projected 31% increase in their budgets over the next 12 months. This significant budget growth is more than double the forecasted 15% by Gartner, indicating a strong commitment from organizations to enhance their cybersecurity defenses.
The upcoming 2025 Cybersecurity Trends Report by Infosecurity Europe highlighted that three-quarters of organizations are anticipating budget growth, with 20% expecting increases of over 50%. The report also revealed that 71% of organizations believe they have the necessary budgets to ensure their cybersecurity, while 18% stated their budgets were almost enough. However, 8% mentioned that they do not have the funding required to cover all their cybersecurity needs, indicating a potential gap in resources.
Jon Davis, Director for Cyber at KPMG and member of the Infosecurity Europe advisory board, raised a crucial point about the importance of allocating cybersecurity budgets effectively. He emphasized that simply increasing budget allocation does not guarantee improved cyber-resilience. Organizations need to focus on the return on investment and prioritize where the money is best spent, whether on tools, people, or processes, to enhance cybersecurity measures effectively.
The study conducted by Infosecurity Europe also identified key investment priorities for organizations, including application security, network security, cloud security, and DevSecOps. This reflects organizations’ efforts to stay ahead of evolving threats and strengthen their overall cybersecurity posture.
Despite the optimistic outlook on budget increases and adequate resources, the report revealed that 47% of cybersecurity leaders struggle to engage effectively at the board level. This highlights a potential gap between technical teams and strategic decision-making within organizations, emphasizing the need for better alignment and collaboration between different stakeholders.
