Microsoft users faced widespread issues with key services like Outlook and Xbox, as reported by more than 37,000 users on Downdetector. The tech company acknowledged the problem in a series of posts on social media platform X and stated that they were actively investigating the outage.
Users expressed frustration over being unable to access their Outlook email accounts and experiencing glitches with Xbox services, both of which are owned by Microsoft. The company assured users that they had identified a potential cause of the problem and had rolled back the suspected code to minimize the impact. They also mentioned that most of the affected services were gradually recovering after the corrective measures were taken.
Social media was flooded with complaints from users who were facing issues with various Microsoft services. One user expressed relief upon realizing that the problem was a widespread Microsoft platform issue rather than a personal hacking incident. Fortunately, some users reported that their access had been restored later on.
This is not the first time Microsoft has encountered such widespread outages. In 2023 and 2024, the tech giant faced massive global outages that took hours to resolve. For instance, on November 26 of the previous year, Microsoft’s Outlook and Teams services were down for over 24 hours due to technical delays.
In a similar vein, Slack also experienced a major outage earlier this week, disrupting thousands of users’ ability to use the communication platform. Such incidents highlight the vulnerability of digital services and the importance of quick and effective responses from tech companies to address these disruptions promptly.
