Version 1, in collaboration with The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC), has unveiled TNMOC Mate, an innovative application aimed at enhancing the visitor experience at the museum. The app utilizes generative artificial intelligence (AI) to present exhibit information in a manner that is easily understandable and accessible to people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and linguistic abilities.

TNMOC is renowned for its intricate exhibitions, which feature cryptographic machines and the historical progression of computers. However, some visitors, such as those with limited English proficiency, younger individuals, or those with neurodiverse profiles, may find these exhibits challenging to comprehend fully. To ensure inclusivity and equal participation for all visitors, TNMOC partnered with Version 1 to develop an app that caters to a wide range of audiences.

Jacqui Garrad, the Museum Director at TNMOC, expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration, stating that Version 1 understood the museum’s vision and goals. She commended the company for its advanced technical expertise and shared dedication to leveraging cutting-edge technology for the benefit of everyone. By embracing this accessible tool, TNMOC aims to immerse its visitors in an exceptional collection and provide educational opportunities. Garrad added that the partnership with Version 1 positions TNMOC as one of the most accessible museums globally.

Version 1’s Chief Technology Officer, Brad Mallard, highlighted the company’s leading capabilities in using generative AI to enhance user experiences. He emphasized the importance of constantly pushing boundaries to meet the expectations of next-generation consumer interactions. Mallard expressed excitement about collaborating with TNMOC, given the historical significance of Bletchley Park and its association with Alan Turing and his groundbreaking work on AI dating back to 1935. The app developed in collaboration with TNMOC aims to deliver an equally captivating and engaging experience to every visitor, regardless of their background.

TNMOC Mate offers seamless museum navigation through clear directions provided in the visitor’s preferred language. Users can choose a persona that matches their age group and language preferences, ensuring a personalized experience. The app incorporates audio and animated visuals to enhance exhibit details and utilizes an interactive floor map for navigation. Simplified text and audio prompts guide visitors through the museum, making it easier for them to explore and understand the exhibitions.

To mark the launch of TNMOC Mate, the museum held a relaxed opening event called “Digital Future Days: Relaxed Opening and Home Educators Day.” This unique event provided visitors with the opportunity to experience the technology firsthand and explore the museum at their own pace in a serene environment.

The collaboration between Version 1 and TNMOC demonstrates the power of advanced AI technology in creating an inclusive and immersive visitor experience. By using generative AI, TNMOC Mate ensures that even complex exhibit information is accessible to diverse audiences, enabling a deeper understanding of the history and future of computing. With this innovative app, TNMOC solidifies its position as a leading museum dedicated to providing equal opportunities for all visitors.
