VicOne, a leader in automotive cybersecurity solutions, has recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with 42Crunch, aimed at enhancing the security of application programming interfaces (APIs) for the software-defined vehicle (SDV) and the broader connected-vehicle ecosystem. This partnership is set to revolutionize the way automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers approach cybersecurity, offering accelerated identification of potential threats at application runtime, improved dynamic risk assessment, and much more.

As the automotive industry transitions towards SDVs and relies more heavily on cloud services and APIs, the risk of cyber-attacks has increased significantly. VicOne has highlighted that incidents related to APIs accounted for 12 percent of automotive security breaches from the second half of 2022 to the first half of 2023. The collaboration between VicOne and 42Crunch promises to eliminate these security blind spots, providing a comprehensive solution to safeguard connected vehicles against emerging threats.

Jacques Declas, the CEO of 42Crunch, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating that their API security testing and protection services, already trusted by Fortune 500 enterprises and over 1 million developers globally, will now be extended to the automotive industry. He emphasized the importance of defending APIs, which are easy to expose but difficult to protect. Through integrating diverse sensor data for risk assessment and actionable insights, OEMs and suppliers can proactively address cybersecurity challenges and adhere to evolving industry regulations.

According to a report by Gartner, API protection products offer functionalities such as discovery, posture management, and runtime protection. By leveraging 42Crunch’s API Audit vulnerability testing solution and API Firewall alongside VicOne’s xNexus platform, automotive companies can gain detailed threat insights to enhance risk visibility, allocate resources effectively, and streamline attack investigations.

Furthermore, VicOne’s xCarbon and xZETA systems play a crucial role in ensuring ongoing cybersecurity within the automotive supply chain. The xCarbon VSOC sensor and smart cockpit protection correlate data to facilitate continuous risk assessment, while the xZETA vulnerability management system identifies and mitigates software vulnerabilities and threats. This integration aligns with ISO/SAE 21434 processes and enables continuous monitoring to uphold security standards.

Max Cheng, CEO of VicOne, highlighted the evolving landscape of automotive cybersecurity, emphasizing the need to address API attacks across various platforms. The collaboration with 42Crunch signifies a proactive approach to cybersecurity, combining expertise in API security with automotive cybersecurity to deliver tailored solutions for the industry’s changing needs.

In conclusion, the partnership between VicOne and 42Crunch marks a significant step towards strengthening cybersecurity in the automotive sector. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and collaborative efforts, OEMs and suppliers can enhance their security posture and effectively combat emerging cyber threats. This collaboration underscores the industry’s commitment to staying ahead of cybersecurity challenges and ensuring the safety and integrity of connected vehicles.
