WatchGuard Gains CyGlass in Acquisition

WatchGuard Technologies, a leading provider of unified cybersecurity solutions, has announced its acquisition of CyGlass Technology Services. CyGlass offers cloud and network-centric threat detection and response solutions designed to help organizations identify risks, stop threats, and ensure compliance. By utilizing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) capabilities, CyGlass provides enterprise-class cyber defense across hybrid networks to mid-sized and small organizations, all without the need for expensive hardware.

The addition of CyGlass technology will enhance WatchGuard’s Unified Security Platform architecture, bringing AI-based detection of network anomalies and enabling the development of a Network Detection and Response (NDR) service in the future. Furthermore, this acquisition will accelerate the capabilities of WatchGuard ThreatSync, enabling Open eXtended detection and response (XDR) functionalities.

Andrew Young, Chief Product Officer at WatchGuard, expressed his excitement over the acquisition, stating, “The success of CyGlass in the last year demonstrates that mid-sized companies and MSPs are seeking innovative detection and response solutions that are not reliant on costly hardware. The WatchGuard solutions built on CyGlass technology will create a competitive advantage for our partners, driving increased revenue and margin opportunities.”

One of the key advantages of CyGlass’s cloud-native platform is its affordability and accessibility. Unlike other Network Detection and Response (NDR) products that require expensive hardware and specialized security analysts, CyGlass offers a fully cloud-based solution. This enables mid-sized enterprises and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to deploy NDR capabilities at a reasonable cost of ownership.

Ed Jackowiak, Founder and CEO of CyGlass, expressed his vision behind the company, saying, “We founded CyGlass with the goal of helping organizations better defend their hybrid networks with new levels of intelligence that protect against the most sophisticated attacks.” He added, “Joining WatchGuard and integrating our capabilities into its impressive Unified Security Platform architecture takes our mission to the next level and makes it available to an established global network of partners and customers.”

WatchGuard’s immediate focus after the acquisition is to provide support to current CyGlass customers and partners, ensuring a seamless transition and integration of the CyGlass technology into the WatchGuard platform. This will further enhance the cybersecurity offerings available to WatchGuard customers.

The acquisition of CyGlass demonstrates WatchGuard’s commitment to democratizing enterprise-grade security solutions. By providing innovative and cost-effective detection and response capabilities, WatchGuard aims to make cybersecurity accessible to organizations of all sizes. This acquisition aligns with WatchGuard’s mission, as the company continues to push the boundaries of cybersecurity and deliver cutting-edge solutions to its vast network of partners and customers.

Legal counsel for the acquisition was provided by Kirkland & Ellis LLP and K&L Gates LLP, representing WatchGuard and Vector Capital.
