In a recent development, commuters in various cities such as California, Paris, Singapore, Queensland, and London have been coming across advertisements for Apple Inc.’s Safari Browser on billboards and public buildings. These ads are skillfully crafted to promote Safari as the preferred browser for iPhone users while also taking a dig at Google’s Chrome browser. The reason behind this strategic move by Apple is Google’s recent acknowledgment of data collection from Chrome users, which has raised concerns about privacy among users.

The ad campaign by Apple is aimed at users who prioritize data security and privacy, suggesting that switching to Safari could address their concerns. The campaign also highlights improvements made to Safari, such as fixing the kids’ screen time bug. While some view Apple’s promotional tactics as innovative, others have criticized the approach for being unfair towards competitors like Google.

Earlier this year, Google Chrome came under fire for allegedly collecting data even when users were in incognito mode, including cookies, search history, and location details. This controversy reignited the ongoing debates surrounding tech companies’ practices of collecting user data, with or without their consent.

Google, operating under its parent company Alphabet Inc., has claimed to prioritize user data security and give users control over their content. However, instances of discrepancies between stated policies and actual practices have been brought to light, particularly through a lawsuit filed in 2020 alleging data collection despite users being in incognito mode.

This move came after a bug bounty program alerted Google to a potential security flaw that could enable remote hackers to inject code through an HTML page, posing a threat to browser stability.

On the other hand, Apple has maintained its commitment to providing users with the highest level of privacy. The company has also been known for its reluctance to comply with demands from law enforcement agencies worldwide when it comes to sharing user data.

In conclusion, the competition between Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome browsers has intensified with Apple’s recent ad campaign targeting privacy-conscious users.
