Black Hat, the renowned producer of cybersecurity events, has successfully concluded the in-person component of Black Hat USA 2023. The event, held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, saw a remarkable turnout of over 22,750 attendees, with 19,750 individuals attending in-person, while more than 3,000 registered for On-Demand Access to the event.
Representatives from 127 countries registered for the event, providing a diverse and global audience. Participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the latest research, development, and trends in Information Security (InfoSec) through 92 hands-on trainings and 98 briefings, where the latest research and vulnerability disclosures were presented.
Steve Wylie, the Vice President of Cybersecurity Market Group at Informa Tech, expressed enthusiasm for Black Hat USA and the chance to connect face-to-face with the community, partners, and sponsors. He expressed appreciation for those who made the annual journey to Las Vegas each August and highlighted the importance of leaving attendees feeling energized and equipped with actionable information and best practices from experts in the security industry.
The event was filled with notable highlights. Among them were three compelling keynotes delivered by esteemed individuals in the industry. Maria Markstedter, founder of Azeria Labs, Jen Easterly, Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Victor Zhora, Deputy Chairman of Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communication and Information Protection, Kemba Walden, Acting National Cyber Director in the Office of the National Cyber Director, and Jason Healey, Senior Research Scholar at Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs. These keynotes delved into the current state of the cybersecurity landscape, providing valuable insights and discussions.
The third annual Omdia Analyst Summit, another significant component of the event, brought together leading cybersecurity analysts to discuss the theme of “Maximum Attention, Minimum Budget.” This summit featured presentations, panels, and fireside chats to highlight the latest cybersecurity trends, market updates, observations, projections, and insights. Participants gained valuable insights from the Omdia team’s Cybersecurity Decision Maker survey.
The Business Hall at Black Hat USA 2023 showcased more than 440 of the industry’s top information security solution providers. Attendees had the opportunity to witness the latest products and technologies, engage with vendors, and participate in various focused areas for attendee and community engagement.
The Black Hat Startup Spotlight Competition added more excitement to the event. It provided a platform for cybersecurity startup companies to present their innovative products and solutions to a live audience. The top four finalists were given the opportunity to pitch their offerings to a panel of judges and answer their questions in real time. The winner of the 2023 competition was announced as Mobb.
Another aspect of Black Hat USA 2023 was the scholarships awarded to introduce the next generation of security professionals to the Black Hat community. A total of 306 complimentary Black Hat USA 2023 Briefings passes were awarded. Black Hat also runs annual Student and Veteran Scholarship programs in partnership with various associations, expanding scholarship opportunities.
The Black Hat Network Operations Center (NOC) played a crucial role in providing a high-security, high-availability network during the event.
