AI-Powered Attacks and Deepfake Technology Increasing Cyberattack Concerns

Keeper Security has recently unveiled the key findings from their latest survey on the state of cybersecurity and the increasing threats that are causing concern for IT security leaders. The survey, which gathered responses from over 800 professionals in the field, revealed that an overwhelming 95% believe that cyberattacks have become more sophisticated than ever before.

Among the various threats highlighted in the survey, AI-powered attacks emerged as the most serious, with phishing attacks being widely viewed as the fastest-growing threat. There has been a noticeable increase in concern surrounding emerging technologies such as deepfakes, with recent news stories emphasizing the potential risks associated with this type of technology. The issue has become so significant that the US government is reportedly in the process of drafting a bill to address deepfake misuse.

The survey has shed light on the complex cybersecurity landscape in 2024, with a focus on the growing prominence of novel AI threats. This dynamic environment highlights the need for proactive cybersecurity strategies that can effectively counter both existing and emerging threats.

According to the survey respondents, the most serious attack vectors include AI-powered attacks, deepfake technology, and supply chain attacks. Other concerns cited in the survey encompass cloud jacking and attacks targeting the Internet of Things (IoT).

In addition, the survey identified the attack vectors that are currently increasing at the fastest rate, with phishing, malware, ransomware, password attacks, and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks ranking as the most prominent threats.

Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-founder of Keeper Security, has stressed the importance of implementing cybersecurity tools to mitigate emerging threats. He emphasized the need to convert the challenge of increasing cyber risk into an opportunity for resilience and fortification of digital defenses, especially as emerging technologies continue to fuel the next wave of cyber threats.

As technology continues to advance, the evolving threats in the cybersecurity landscape demand constant adaptation from IT leaders. This sentiment aligns with Keeper Security’s recent collaboration with St. Anna Children’s Cancer Research Institute to implement and maintain secure password management.

In conclusion, the survey conducted by Keeper Security provides valuable insights into the current state of cybersecurity and the challenges faced by IT professionals. The findings highlight the escalating sophistication of cyber threats and the critical need for proactive and adaptable cybersecurity strategies to effectively combat these risks in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
