A 21-year-old man from West Dunbartonshire has been found guilty of developing and selling a computer program capable of bringing down websites, following a lengthy and intricate cybercrime investigation by Police Scotland.
Amar Tagore, who hails from Alexandria, was arrested after authorities uncovered his involvement in creating a tool used to launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks on commercial systems. These attacks are notorious for causing websites to crash and widespread disruption to online services.
Tagore’s online tool was not only used by him but also sold to hundreds of customers worldwide, whom he provided with technical support. This cybercriminal operation resulted in Tagore making tens of thousands of pounds through the sales of his malicious software.
Following his arrest, Tagore pled guilty to the charges brought against him at Dumbarton Sheriff Court. He is now awaiting sentencing, which is set to take place at a later date.
