A recent discovery has shed light on the presence of a spyware app known as pcTattletale infiltrating the systems of various Wyndham hotels in the United States. Eric Daigle, an expert in cybersecurity, identified this app as a form of “simple stalkerware” while investigating consumer-grade spyware. Daigle stumbled upon pcTattletale within the hotel chain’s check-in systems, bringing attention to the concerning breach of privacy and security.

The functionality of pcTattletale is alarming, with reports indicating its ability to capture screenshots of the hotel booking systems, containing sensitive guest and customer information. What makes this infiltration even more disturbing is the existence of a security flaw within the spyware that allows these screenshots to be accessible on the Internet, posing a significant risk to the privacy of individuals.

The capabilities of the pcTattletale app extend beyond capturing screenshots, as it enables users to remotely view a target’s Android or Windows device along with its data from any location. Its website boasts stealth functionality, ensuring that the app can operate covertly without detection while snapping screenshots at frequent intervals. Furthermore, if a user is cognizant of the remote-viewing glitch in the spyware, they can retrieve the captured screenshots from pcTattletale’s servers.

Amidst the discovery of this security breach, Daigle made attempts to reach out to pcTattletale to notify the company about the bug. However, his efforts have thus far gone unanswered, raising concerns about the lack of responsiveness from the responsible party in addressing this issue. Daigle advises individuals who suspect they may be targeted by this form of stalkerware to conduct an antivirus scan using tools like Windows Defender for Windows or Malwarebytes for Android to safeguard their devices and data.

The infiltration of pcTattletale in the systems of Wyndham hotels serves as a stark reminder of the constant threat posed by malicious software and the importance of vigilance in protecting personal information. As technology continues to advance, it is crucial for individuals and organizations to prioritize cybersecurity measures to prevent unauthorized access and safeguard sensitive data. This incident underscores the significance of staying informed about potential vulnerabilities and taking proactive steps to mitigate risks in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape.
